“The final goal of education can no longer be knowledge, but the will born out of knowledge.” It’s not what you learn, it’s how you learn to use it.
I’m sure most of you know what Agorism means. I only recently, within the year maybe, learned what it was and really dove into it. According to Wiki, Agorism is a social philosophy that advocates creating a society in which all relations between people are voluntary exchanges by means of counter-economics, engaging with aspects of peaceful revolution.
I take this concept as a way to live under the Statist paradigm while still maximizing your own freedom. Using it as a means to deprive the State of control over your daily interactions. While you can’t escape the system completely, its philosophy provides some outlets. There are other words for this way of life once the State has been eradicated. While that one might be a long term goal, Agorism certainly fits into the here and now.
One of the main components of State control is education.
“Give me just one generation of youth, and I’ll transform the whole world.”
- Vladimir Lenin
“Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.”
- Vladimir Lenin
Homeschooling is a way to get around this. While you have to get permission from the local school system (ie the State), it is acceptable. Go figure, you are “allowed” to choose how to educate your own children, IF you meet their qualifications. I wonder why that might be?
While I don’t have children yet, this is certainly in the plans. Didn’t even have to convince my wife, because she already had the same idea. I've already done some research on how to apply for it in our district, and it seems pretty simple. I also joined an Ohio Homeschoolers Facebook page. It was kind of strange because one of the questions to be approved was how many kids do you have. I wrote something to the tune of “no kids yet, but definitely interested in homeschooling and would like to learn more”. I’m assuming they have that question in there to try and weed out the pervs. Luckily the only things on my Facebook are tags from my family, and nothing political or outside the realm of allowable opinion. I’ve seem a lot of interesting info on there so far.
So what are some of the ways an at home learning program could be arranged? It could be the traditional, child and parent model. Or it could be this.
Love it. This is just one example of how humans have this unique ability to solve their problems by working together for the benefit of everyone. The educator gets out of the public school system, gets paid to do what he/she loves, the kids learn in an independent environment, and the parents will be invested in the process because they are directly funding it. There is no moral hazard, and the parents are incentivized to participate. They also don’t have to fight with 30 other sets of parents for the teachers focus. This kind of model also solves the typical roadblock of two working parents. It functions as a childcare, like State schools.
Corey DeAngelis recently tweeted about this kind of learning style the other day. It seems like a group of people who will help match you with pods in your area. The company is called School House. You can’t get much in depth info without going through their application process. But it looks like an excellent recourse.
The current system is not working, and if anything, doing a disservice to our youth. Federal and State governments keep pouring more of your hard earned money into this system, and it just keeps getting worse. Or maybe it’s succeeding, depending on which Cathedral operative you ask? I don’t want to hear the cookie cutter NPC complaint of “but, but, the Republicans keep cutting education funding!” because its demonstrably false.
One common complaint about homeschooling is it creates these weirdo kids who don't know how to fit into society. If anything that's good. Who cares if they don't score highly on some standardized test. I want my future youngsters to be happy, and invested in what they're doing. Not some mindless automaton producing the same garbage everyone else does.
Outside of the system they can learn skills they want to make their lives better, and the lives of the people around them better. If I remember correctly, the school district in my area even lets the homeschool kids participate in school sponsored extra-circulars, like sports. Seems like a great way to make friends outside of the little circle they’d live in. Plus, that Ohio Homeschool Facebook group regularly has families meeting up to do group projects, or go on adventures. The internet has greatly increased the amount of recourses here.
Another positive for me specifically is my family. The wife only works part time currently, and could probably drop that when ever we have kids. My mom, and two of her sisters have already retired from teaching after 30+ years. Having access to over 90 years of professional education experience will be amazing. One of my other cousins has stepped in to teach her young daughter, and two of their little cousins since the lockdowns started. We all live within 20 minutes of each other too. The possibilities are endless.
“Families are the ties that remind us of yesterday, provide strength and support today, and give us hope for tomorrow. No government, no matter how well-intentioned, or well-managed, can provide what our families provide.”
– Bill Owens
I really like this Max Stirner quote about education. “The final goal of education can no longer be knowledge, but the will born out of knowledge.” It’s not what you learn, it’s how you learn to use it.

Bonus! In the last few weeks I have really tried to dive into the crypto space. To learn about it, and to start investing. If you have any tips or recourses please let me know!

I found this crypto start up called Pi Network that lets you mine their currency from your phone just by clicking a button once every 24 hours. You can’t pull it out yet, and I don’t believe it has a dollar value currently, but it might eventually. It’s free and takes zero effort so why not give it a try. Here is their white paper.
