Charlottesville 2.0 here we come
The Cathedral now has everything they need to build an updated narrative, ... They have the next Charlottesville moment to thank for it.
First off, welcome back! I hope you had a great holiday. We should be returning to our regularly scheduled programming this week.
Watching the Trump crowd storm the capital this week was insane.
I don’t recall the timing exactly, but I’m pretty sure I noticed all four stock indexes dip pretty hard around the same time. Which was strange considering how they have been moving recently. I opened up Twitter, and that’s where I started to see all the pictures and headlines. When I left work I texted the wife and told her I was heading out, and asked if she was watching the news by chance. She just said “should I be?” and I responded with “maybe”. She didn’t text back.
CNN was on when I got home from work. The Capital building had already been cleared out, and they were starting to push the crowds back off the lawn. Personally, I like to choose CNN for events that we need live news coverage for. Since they are the lowest rated it seems like they aren’t very good at their job, and that’s kind of amusing. MSNBC is too triggering for me, and Fox is… well Fox. It’s fun to watch all those anchors keep plugging away, as their ratings keep dropping, knowing that fewer and fewer people are watching them. I’ve never seen the pearl clutch enacted so perfectly as Wolf Blitzer did in the first few minutes I was home. He just could not believe what was going on. I can’t remember exactly what he was saying, but it was great.
Later in the night Trump was suspended from Twitter for a 12 hour chunk. Not that I think he would have provided any good material in that particular mental state. It would have been carnage. The next day Facebook announced that Trump will be banned from their platform Indefinitely. Neither of these bother me. Honestly if, or more likely, when he is banned from Twitter it will drive him more underground online to a smaller platform. If he maintains his status as Cheeto-in-chief for his 10s of millions of followers, it might also drive the Corporate press onto those platforms to try and cover it. This time they will be wading in to a space that the right has established.
Maybe this whole thing wasn’t the best strategy though. I get it, you’re mad about all the perceived injustice and hate you’ve had to endure. We’ve just seem the left riot, burn, and destroy property all summer. Their leaders were slow to condemn specific events, or outright encouraged them. Remember what Maxine Waters said? “Let’s make sure we show up wherever we have to show up. And if you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd. And you push back on them. And you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere.” The right was correctly able to point at this and show how the left wants to behave, and it was working for them. Their poll numbers started to trend up a bit. There were countless examples of violence and destruction from the left, and almost none from the right. The right just gave away one of the few decent cards they had.
Where the right will go wrong here is that they will not be treated with the same gloves that the left was. They are not in power, so they will not get a pass. Maybe they don’t care at this point? I don’t mean in power as who literally controls the government, but who dominates the cultural landscape. They are enemies of the Cathedral. They want to play by the same rules as the left, and it’s just not going to happen. You’d be crazy to think that Hawley could stand up on a stage and get away with that Waters quote.
The Cathedral now has everything they need to build an updated narrative, and will be able to justify whatever they want to do to these people. They have the next Charlottesville moment to thank for it.
I think this was a miss-step for the ReTrumplican movement (thank Chris Cuomo for that one) and it falls on Trump's shoulders. I’m not going to get into whether or not it was actually justifiable, or the reasons why it happened. It’s too convoluted. I just think this will end up being a bad move strategically. I could be wrong, who knows.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Bonus! In the last few weeks I have really tried to dive into the crypto space. To learn about it, and to start investing. If you have any tips or recourses please let me know!

I found this crypto start up called Pi Network that lets you mine their currency from your phone just by clicking a button once every 24 hours. You can’t pull it out yet, and I don’t believe it has a dollar value currently, but it might eventually. It’s free and takes zero effort so why not give it a try. Here is their white paper.
In order to sign up, you have to use an invite code, so please go ahead and use mine. DontStatistOnMe
You can also find me on MeWe! Mike Lastname with the same doggo icon. Let me know in the comments if you can’t find me.

Nicely said. All the pearl clurchers today acting like they didn’t encourage the same behavior by the Left last year. Hypocrisy drives me nuts.
